Appreciation of works
“The Great Traveler – Xuanzang” is the work of an artist-in-residence in the 2017 “Belt and Road International Printmaking Exchange Project” jointly organized by the China Academy of Art and Shenzhen Guanlan Printmaking Original Industry Base.
The artist (Kestutis Vasiliunas) was born in Vilnius, Lithuania in 1964. He graduated from the Vilnius Academy of Fine Arts in Lithuania in 1988 and is currently a professor at the Printmaking Department of the Academy. This work depicts Xuanzang, an eminent monk from the Tang Dynasty. From 629 to 645, he traveled 50,000 miles west of Yumen Pass from Liangzhou to Tianzhu to study the theories of various schools of Buddhism. After returning, he was engaged in the translation of Buddhist scriptures for a long time, and compiled the “Datang Western Regions”, making it a masterpiece of Chinese and Western culture. important messenger of communication.
