Seeking to broaden and enrich the artistic experience of future students planning to join our academy to study and / or train in the field of graphic and textile arts, every year our ‘PATA’ international summer courses feature do famous foreign professors: one for textile and one for graphic art.
Kestutis Vasiliunas is a protagonist of European graphic art, professor at Vilnius Academy of Arts, organiser of Artist’s Book Triennial and, as his CV states, participant and winner of various exhibitions, symposiums and competitions in various corners of the world.
Works of this Lithuanian graphic artist actually make you think (and how rare is that nowadays!) and send universally understandable or complex messages, encouraging the viewer to adopt a certain position. Thanks to the aptly applied wood carving technique, his engravings resemble scenes full of bright colours, yet they are almost always shrouded in indelible sadness.
In his works, the artist often employs Christian and, in particular, Christ’s iconography, merging in one work elements of both medieval and contemporary art, as if they were two different languages separated by time, and turning his works into symbols, message carriers and judges of dramatic modern reality through the style of pop art.

Prof. Kestutis Vasiliunas was invited by the Academy of Fine Arts Lodz to make the course “Graphic Art in Space”. In the Academy gallery he had the personal exhibition.

Ogni anno l’International Summer Courses PATA invita come docente dei suoi corsi due affermati docenti stranieri: uno per la tecnica del textile art e un altro per quella della stampa d’arte allo scopo di offrire un ventaglio più ampio e diversificato di esperienze artistiche a chi intende venire nella nostra accademia per apprendere e o perfezionare le arti della stampa e quelle del textile.
Kestutis Vasiliunas è un protagonista dell’arte incisoria europea, docente presso l’Accademia di Belle Arti di Vilnius, promotore di una affermata triennale del libro d’artista, e come si può leggere nel suo cv, protagonista di mostre, simposium, concorsi in diverse parti del mondo.
L’artista lituano è un incisore che con le sue opere ci fa pensare (cosa assai rara di questi tempi!), lancia messaggi che come tali possono essere condivisi o meno, ma ci invitano comunque a prendere posizione.
Grazie al sapiente uso della xilografia le sue stampe, quasi apparati scenici, sono piene di colori vivaci, anche se quasi sempre velate di una tristezza apparentemente incancellabile.
Nelle sue opere usa spesso l’iconografia cristiana ed in particolare quella del Cristo riprendendola dalla pittura medioevale affiancandola a quella presa dal mondo contemporaneo unificando nella stessa opera due linguaggi temporalmente lontani e trasformando il tutto in simboli alla maniera della Pop Art, portatori di messaggi che diventano giudizi precisi sulla realtà drammatica del nostro tempo.
